An Introduction to East Lothian Liberal Democrats

East Lothian Liberal Democrats are a campaigning unit of the Scottish Liberal Democrats and of the Federal Party. It's boundaries for membership and where we work are co-terminus with those of the East Lothian Council Area.

Our main aims are to secure election of party members to public office, recruit new members and encourage existing ones to renew. To campaign and work with local people to help achieve our objectives.

This may require some changes to the way democracy works, we believe there needs to be a fair voting system for all elected positions at all levels of government. This should be by proportional representation.. We should be enabling participatory budgeting at the basic local level for example. To decide, by discussion, debate and voting (open to everyone in the community) how some budgets are allocated. The creation of citizens assemblies/conventions at a variety of levels to discuss and agree solutions in key areas that politicians then have to act on.

We put forward members for election in all Council wards as well as in the relevant Westminster and Holyrood elections.
