Sustainable Tourism and Visitor Initiatives

Stuart Crawford in Gifford.

We are lucky to have so many historic and natural attractions across the Ward but there appears to be no clearly stated tourism strategy. Other parts of the county have one and there's no reason why Haddington and its surrounds should not.

We need joined up tourism, with visitors being attracted from Edinburgh and beyond by a well planned tourist trail which presents all the best we have to offer. This will need a bit of work between the Council and local community and businesses, but it can be done.

There are many success stories locally such as Amisfield Walled Garden, The Loft and the Humbie Hub, but enterprises need joined up encouragement and support from the Council

Improved long term tourism planning will bring real long term economic benefits across the community. At the same time, the outlying communities are not well served by broadband or public transport, especially at night ad for the elderly. I would like to work with current providers to come up with a better plan.
